Space Shuttle Piggy-Back
A rare treat today: the space shuttle taking a piggy-back ride atop a modified 747, on its way to the Air & Space Museum annex at Dulles Airport, accompanied by an F16. It did a couple of fly-overs over Washington (where traffic came to a complete halt...). Here it is overflying the Washington Monument (the tallest structure in town). The reaction of the crowds as the shuttle/plane flew by was amazing: excitement, screams, finger-pointing, cameras clicking, kids jumping up and down -- even a few tears.
I got a chance to snap a few pictures from the Kennedy Center. Here is the rest of the shuttle's photos. Well worth a look for some much closer-up shots. :))
