And the sun came out

After the rain, the sun started to shine on Jura. We dragged on our wet clothes, crawled out of the bunkhouse and spied the dog playing with the goose - a most surreal scene. A bit of a walk up through boggy ground and over deer fences, and we came to a viewpoint where we could see the Gulf of Corrywreckan. We didn't spy the main whirlpool, but we certainly saw lots of turbulent waves and strange rings of water. I blipped this hairy caterpillar up on the northern tip of Jura - the bog is covered with these guys. I think their fox moth caterpillars, but I'm still trying to confirm that. I'm amazed at their stamina!

We left the whirlpool and northern Jura, pushing our bikes along the 7 miles of tortuous track, stopping to look at George Orwell's house on the way. Then we hit tarmac and gently cycled to Craighouse where a room in the Jura Hotel waited for us. We filled the drying room with all our belongings. We wanted to stay their ourselves, but dinner called us. We chatted to a couple from Dorset who we'd met the day before and the evening before that. They'd tried to walk to the Corryvreckan, but the bad weather had turned them back, so they were impressed that we'd managed to get up that far. I think we were quite impressed by ourselves, too, though with hindsight, we may not have done it. However the gorgeous sun on the way back made the whole tortuous journey there all the more worthwhile. The views were tremendous!
