Choosing....
What an impossible task! To choose a photo which sums up the day.
We went to Merida today. If you've never been it's a must!
It's the southern most capital of Rome's province Lusitania.
Everywhere they dig they find Roman remains. If they start digging the foundations for a new building and there are Roman remains then they build over the top leaving the remains intact and easily accessible for visitors.
Walk down a street and you'll come across a temple or some other huge Roman remains.
The museum is built over a Roman street and buildings etc. The museum itself has some of the largest mosaics I have ever come across. It is really quite extraordinary.
(Museum is free on Sundays and free to over 65's.)
There is a Roman bridge that spans the river that was being used up until the 1970's!
There's one of the best preserved Roman theatres anywhere and an amphitheatre.
(The theatre they still use in the summer for concerts and plays!)
So much to see. Some of it we still have to get round to seeing.
So we had a brilliant outing and the weather was lovely too!
