Pere Lachaise Cemetery
We took the metro to Pere Lachaise, as D and M had not been there before. This is the headstone Of Oscar Wilde, now surrounded by protective hard plastic, which is covered in lipstick kisses and message of affection. When S and I were there a few years ago, there were similar messages on the actual stone: love hearts and lips made with actual lipstick. As these have been scrubbed off and the stone cleaned up, fans have left them on the protective surround instead.
We found other famous people: Jim Morrison, Guillaume Apollinaire, Honore de Balzac, Yves Montand etc.
Back on the metro, we went back via Montmartre, visiting Sacre-Coeur and (believe it or not!), Montmartre Cemetery! I was amazed to see that a busy road has been built over a bit of the cemetery, with graves immediately below the pillars. D loved Sacre-Coeur, declaring it his favourite church.
