dancing showercaps...

...of the grape hyacinth

which isn't really a hyacinth at all... nope - rumor has it they're a part of the lily family... boo! nothing like confusing those of us who typically call flowers, flowers... and surprisingly they are native to the mediterranean area and asia minor - so how they ended up in the colorado rockies is very much beyond me...

what's even more amazing is that this is just one lone, little stalk of the pretty thing... right in my yard - hanging out like nobody's business - and only because of the rich color, did it catch my eye... i realize to others it may appear to look like grapes - one reason for its name... but to me, i can't help but giggle at this picture - thinking of my grandmother and the frilly showercaps she used to wear... trying to preserve her hairdo's from week-to-week. her one small indulgence of a treat to herself: visiting the salon... then wearing the cutest yet funky showercaps they had back in the day. women don't do that so much anymore - opting to wash their hair most days to ready themselves for work or play or just to feel good - making for...

a

happy day.....
