Tulip time at Harlow Carr
We haven't been here since the beginning of March when the first signs of tulip growth were starting to show.
Today was remarkably fine and even quite warm and the displays of tulips here at the northern RHS garden were stunning. Every variation of hue and combination with other flowering bulbs made the displays magnificent.
Other plants fought for contention - some blousy Fritillaria; bluebells; primroses; early Rhodedendron and surprisingly there were still lots of daffodils in flower.
Hard to choose but these tubs against the purple walls in the Year 2000 millennium garden (by Dairmud Gavin) just jumped off the screen when I looked through my shots. I would never dream of painting a wall purple in my garden but I have photographed different plantings in this space throughout the seasons and they have all looked terrific. Roses in the summer and last Autumn this purple berried shrub here (Callicarpo) are all set off by the colour of the walls.
Lovely day out - we will be back next month!
