A view from Jeanneb

The highest road in Britain

We have had a glorious day today - yes really! We woke to blue skies in Plockton and had lots of sparkling blue Loch views en route to Applecross.

The most direct route is over Bealach Na Ba which you are warned not to take in wintry conditions - it climbs to 2053ft and has inclines of 1 in 5. It looked a little cloudy over the hills as we began our ascent. About half way we had the first flurries of snow flakes and the car thermometer pinged to say we had gone below 4 degrees C. Soon after we were in a full blown blizzard!

Here we are at the summit. The snow had stopped and we were amazed to have a view back down to the Inner Sound - still sparkling blue.

The hills in the distance are some of the mountains of Skye also dusted with snow.

We continued down to Applecross and the sun, sparkling water and blue skies.

We came back the long way around and eyed the cyclists who passed us with pity!!
