How to Exorcise
"It is a poor advertisement for the church. A young boy, travelling with his parents, seems happy enough. Suddenly he spots the passing spire of a cathedral. As the building looms into view, he is thrown into a rage. He foams at the mouth and tries to bite his mother".
This text is taken from a 2006 Guardian Article describing a scene in the 1976 Movie "The Omen", shot here at Guildford Cathedral. It is a scary place. First conceived in 1928 various things got in the way (including the small matter of World War Two) which meant that it was not consecrated until 1961 and not finished until 1966.
I think it looks like a power station personally, but it's better in than out (so's to speak). I was only in the vicinity because I was walking The Dizzle to Guildford School of Acting for his first day in the Saturday school. I certainly got to exercise if not exorcise, as it is a forty minute walk from the station to GSA (on the far side of the University campus) and back. We forgot the jogging pants, had to trade up a shoe size, and didn't remember the water but the boy had a good first day and worked hard. Street Dance is all female apart from him - poor lad, he'll learn to cope - but the staff are super friendly.
Made the mistake of going shopping afterwards. Complete fail. Lots of people desperate to get out and do something despite the grim skies and incessant rain. They were hanging around in shop doorways and overpopulating the coffee shops. Nice to get home and put feet up with tea and home made flapjacks.
Glad to have The Girl Racer home for a night. We're having posh fish finger sandwiches for supper, followed by a crumble of drambuie soaked apricots and pistachios with caramel ice cream. Yum yum. Will definitely need to exercise after that lot ...
