the blue danube
This has been such a wonderful day....the conference went well and then it was time to relax at last.
Adrian and I had tea with Esther, an old friend of his who had just returned from her honeymoon. She had been engaged to her husband in 1979, but circumstances led them to part and they ended up marrying other people. 33 years later, they have tied the knot. `Megis`, as Hungarians say - roughly translated as `in spite of everything`. Such a lovely story. I do like a happy ending.
This evening, I met up with my old friend, Margit, a teacher and writer of novels. We walked for many miles, up to the Castle in Buda and along the Danube, before eating another of those filling Hungarian meals (how do they all stay so slim?).
This is the Chain Bridge, built by the Scottish engineer Adam Clark. The lions are great.
It is almost midnight. Home tomorrow.
