Green Man

(not Green girl's husband!)

I have always been fascinated by the Green Man, a symbol of rebirth and growth which is often found in churches but predates Christianity and occurs across the world. This is an example of the 'disgorging type' in which foliage sprouts from the mouth. There is a 'bloodsucker type' where the foliage comes from all facial orifices! I bought this Green Man many years ago in Carlisle Cathedral shop.

Today I have spent a bit of time amongst the foliage myself, finally potting up the tomato seedlings and doing some weeding. Really it was just an excuse to be outside and to listen to the birds singing.
