Home from home
We arrived at our destination today, walking 18 miles from Wooler to Lindisfarne (Holy Island). In contrast to yesterday, the sun shone the whole day and it was a perfect end to the trip.
I'd always wanted to visit Lindisfarne and it was brilliant to walk in along the causeway with the sun sparkling on the sea. Holy Island is one of Western Europe's most famous Christian sites. The 7th Century saw the Golden Age of Northumbria, culminating in the production of the Lindisfarne Gospels which are now in the British Library. We had time to see its beautiful Priory and Castle and explore the village including these picturesque upturned boats which are now used as fishing huts.
We finished the day with fish and chips and far too much red wine, knowing we only had to get on the bus tomorrow.
