Small world
Woke up today feeling pretty good, considering I'd walked 65 miles in four days and had staggered home from the pub last night.
We had an hour or so to explore before we had to get the bus from Lindisfarne to Berwick upon Tweed to start our journeys home. I had a look round the church and really liked this sculpture of the monks taking St Cuthbert's body off the island to save it from Viking raids.
I met the vicar's wife who told me they'd been there about a year and previously had been in a parish in...Brighton! Her children had been born there. I got the impression that they were not particularly thrilled to be spending their teenage years on Lindisfarne. The permanent population is only 120, public transport is very limited and access to the nearest town is restricted by tide times.
I eventually got back to Brighton in the evening. Had a bath, some home cooked food, a glass of wine and fell asleep!
