....Who's the leader of the club......
Ok, Ok I know it's the Mickey Mouse song and the photo is Donald Duck....but it's still Disney....and for three hours this afternoon I was on my way to Paris.......with hebs.
The day started off normally...two lessons and then a fag break with hebs....the last one for a few days as she is taking a group of pupils to Paris...leaving tonight and getting back late Saturday night. Two more lessons and then lunch time...and then a weird thing happened.
The senior colleague going on the trip came down to see me...he explained that due to personal reasons he couldn't now go on the trip....and there was a reserve member of staff who could take his place.......except said reserve had neglected to tell his wife about the arrangement and was now unsure if he could go....so did I want to be the back-up back-up.
I said yes...providing I could contact the Boss who is up at her Dad's again today ferrying him and her step mother to hospital appointments. I tried her mobile but it was turned off....I got an answer on the land line but the Boss was out on the first journey. Eventually I got hold of her about 2.25.
I explained the situation and her reply was....." If you want to go, go!". My passport is valid, I have clean clothes, all I needed was some Euros...and I could get them on the journey.
I taught my last lesson...and then the wait began....hebs wanted to put a time limit on the wait....there was lots of umming and aahing...eventually I got the message at 4.30...the back-up had cleared things with his wife and could go after all.
So here I am at home....they will have just set off on the journey....and the Boss will be driving home not knowing if I will be here or on the way to Paris...but it made me think....how cool would it have been to just get home from work....pack a bag....and go. That would have been a surprise for D and V tomorrow...and the boys at the fishing hut on Saturday. Oh well never mind, maybe I'll get another trip another time....I've done Paris before....and London......and Belgium 8 times....and the Lakes about 12 times....and of course Siberia....23 school trips in 33 years taeaching, not bad going I suppose.
