Black pottery

The community of Guatajiagua is known for its black pottery in the Lenca tradition. This is usually a family business, run in the backyard or in the garden. The big pot is where smaller pieces are cooked. Bigger ones require a proper oven.

Morazán department is home to indigenous community. It is one of the poorest regions in El Salvador - and the most hurt by the civil war.
