Oxford County

Had an appointment in Oxford today and, on my short walk from one bus stop to another, I noticed for the first time this road sign outside the Oxfordshire County Council offices.

It dates from the 1930s and was originally at the crossroads on the B4031 south of Bloxham. Note that in the 1930s Oxfordshire was known as Oxford County (very posh!). You can read the full details from the plaque here.

The milestone below dates from the 1750s and was on the Oxford to Banbury turnpike. You can see it in detail here.

I've just realised that if you look in large you can see me in the reflection!
