sap at the real Walden Pond

Last year I went to Walden with the photo club and we went to the wrong pond. We walked through the parking lot and the woods to a pond/lake and didn't realize that the real Walden was actually across the street from the parking lot. All this time I was wondering why there were so many houses at the water's edge of this supposedly sacred place.
