Vent of some sorts.

We went to Semington in Trowbridge this afternoon to take a walk along the Kennet & Avon Canal, before we even got along the canal I had taken about 7 or 8 pictures including this one, I then had to ask what it was.

As Mike was thinking the 'thing' started to make hissing noises and then went sort of 'pop'. M thinks it is a vent belonging to a pipe going over the bridge, an air bleed valve! I was half expecting it to go bang!

We walked a bit beside the canal, then back to Semington and out the otherside and then called into the Somerset Arms for a drink.
