How is this for attention to detail? I spotted this cast iron railing as I was walking along by the river Kent. Was the painter told to outline the writing on this post, or did he do it because he was interested in where it was made?

I looked for more information on Rishton's foundry and discovered it was one of at least ten foundries in Kendal working from the late 18th century to early 19th century. The foundry was also responsible for making some of the iron roadsigns called fingerposts still found in the area. Next time I see one, I will be down on my hands and knees checking out where it was made!
