inspired by a wild flower
Right in the centre of Kendal's one way traffic system there is a haven of peace. The Quaker garden is a treasure trove of flowers collected by botanists and captured for posterity in skillful embroidery on one of the Tapestry panels.
But there is something else of interest in this garden. A small patch of lawn seems to contains more weeds than it should do. It is an area that has been allowed to develop naturally so that many wild flowers flourish in this safe environment.
This little flower, the meadow saxifrage, was once common, but due to the decline in meadow-land, it is now quite rare.
I hope, in time, that our garden might be a home for a variety of wild flowers. At the moment, dandelions are proliferating rapidly!
