Baby kookaburra

Ok, not quite a baby. But definitely a pre-teen. It's only when they reach kookaburra adolescence that they develop their full colours and markings.

This one was sitting on the clothesline. He is fully aware my family are softies when it comes to the local wildlife, and the household's daily routine is scheduled around bird and possum feedings.

The area has been much developed of late, so the animals have lost a lot of their habitat. Luckily we have a large plot of land with lots of trees, so we serve as the local animal reserve and home to many things that crawl, fly and creep.
