Auctioneer DANIEL R MAC CARTHY Property Agents.

I took this shot rather cheekily at the Monday sale at Longridge Auction. A farmer friend told me that Danny's lease was up and it was unlikely that he would be able to lease the property again. If it is true, then it will be the loss of another vital community need. I had to push the ISO up to 3200, in order to shoot in available light, no flash. Farmers are quite shy when there are cameras about. You should be able to make Danny out, he is sat on a stool, wearing his half-moon type spectacles. You name it, and Danny sells it or auctions it. In true farmer style, not unlike my own, nothing is thrown away. Eventually it might end up at Danny's. Today, there were Quail, goslings, ducklings, Welsomer pullets, Maran pullets, budgies and of course, lots and lots of eggs. All free range. These included, Quail, bantam, duck and goose and dozens and dozens of healthy looking Warren eggs. The commercial breed, who lay very nice, brown eggs. There were also plenty of hatching eggs which always amaze me for the value they present. The hatching eggs also included all of the aforementioned, plus guinea fowl and peacock. Lop eared rabbits, lion faced rabbits and finches. Apart from the livestock, I doubt whether there is much that Danny has not tried to sell. There is another saleroom, not too far away from here, but this is at Clitheroe Auction Mart. This does not have the charm of the Longridge auction. I sincerely hope that my farmer informant is wrong, as Danny's is a place to acquire and dispose of "trumpery" as Ceredwen quite rightly calls it.
