Bent and twisted.
This morning we visited Sheringham Park. Now Owned by the National Trust.
I wasn't sure what to blip, but I chose this because as well as the beautiful flowers I loved the twisted tree trunks, and all the coloured petals on the floor.
This tree rhododendron is so old part it has supports to keep it up.
It was lovely and sunny when we arrived at 9.30.am.
We are so lucky that we can now fully appreciate the beautiful landscape that Humphry Repton sketched out 200 years ago this year.
The coastal views he created are as breathtaking as ever and provide a stunning backdrop to the vibrant colours of the wild garden.
There are 1000 acres in all. (we didn't walk round all of it!)
At the moment the woods are alive with bird song, and full of blue bells, and rhododendrons.
They have built two viewing platforms, so you can see over the top of the masses of rhododendrons in flower, and then look down to the sea in the distance.
The walk takes you past the house, which is privately owned, but what a wonderful setting.
About two hours later we arrived back at the car, and were amazed how many people had arrived. The car park was full and also the overflow one.But because the place is so big it didn't seem busy.
Then it was on to Byfords in Holt for a delicious bowl of broccoli and stilton soup, and crayfish and prawn sandwich.
Bought some of my favourite cheese Delice de Bourgogne from Larners.
(Very rich and creamy cow's milk cheese from Burgundy, due to the cheese making process where cream is added twice to the milk during the making of the cheese)
We then went to a little village called Glandford, where we had a look round Cley Spy ( binoculars and telescopes, and outdoor clothing shop)
Also looked round BIRDscapes Gallery, where we saw some stunning sculptures
by Anthony McKay. He makes regular visits to the North Norfolk coast in search of the sights and sounds that fire his creativity.
The Sculptures of birds, mainly in wood but with iron bases were stunning. May try and sneak a photo before we leave! If I had the room, and £2800 to spare I would have bought one!
Unfortunately it is raining now, but hope it clears up so that we can go for a walk after tea.
Hope you have all had a good Bank Holiday Monday.
