Guess who.... Guess what...
If you guessed KatKatzenjammer and coffee, you would be partly correct.
If you guessed KatKatzenjammer and bad day, as I seem to blip a photo of my coffees if I am having a shitty day, you would be spot on.
Still in a state of shock following mum's news yesterday that she has liver cancer, and still in some pain from tthe car accident on ny birthday on Saturday night, I assumed the obscure headache that set in late last night was stress related. You can imagine frustration as it got more weird and painful this morning, and you can probably imagine the panic that hit when I felt something in my ear at lunchtime an hour ago which turned out to be bleeding. Not just a bit of spotting as though I had scratched a bit rough. No. Bleeding. Proper bleeding. From my ear canal.
Unlike a lot of people my age, I called my GP before updating my facebook status and other social networks. I was told that there are no appointments available this afternoon... Until I said what is wrong. Quick coffee now while I wait before heading off to an appointment they have made available for me.
UPDATE: Nothing too sinister. Actually, it's good news, in a weird way. Who'da thought bleeding from the ear would be good?
For those who haven't been reading about my little slice of chaos very long, quite some time ago I had a severe ear infection that simply WOULD NOT HEAL. As I am allergic to penicillin and cephalosporins (the GOOD antibiotics that ALWAYS work), I get put on not so fantastic ones that never fully get rid of any infection, leave me feeling woeful in every possible way, and are just generally pointless. Since then the infection has been coming and going (but never fully going). The cause of today's bleeding ear was the infected bit finally rupturing properly. I'm on a short course of antibiotics (again) to make sure the 'wound' doesn't become re-infected, but with the exception of a slightly irritated ear drum, I am now free of ear infection...
And balance. It's totally off again, as I had become used to having fluid on my eardrum, and been compensating by walking a little wonky. Should be interesting if I am still off balance this weekend - with my 1950s party, I am wearing some rather generously heeled shoes... Four and a half inches, to be precise... Me, standing at 5'9" bare foot, has a long way to fall.
