you looking at me?

...my first task this morning was to set the mower to its highest cut and perform a first pass through our knee-high grass. I avoid using the term lawn as, at no time, does our grass here ever resemble that quintessential English sward and, when you see it in all its glory, it is easy to see why. The grass content is actually quite low with plantains being the most proliferous, but the most beautiful element is the ragged robin and wild calendula. It was almost a shame to have to cut it. The bees, butterflies and other invertebrates made me remember to have a rake through first to protect the profusion of life that dwells in our garden, such as this example of the dozens of mantids that hide amongst the vegetation! Plenty of lizards, too, but a very disappointing lack of snakes...
