Historic Shakhrisabz

We really loved Shakhrisabz, near Samarkand. It's the birthplace of the legendary warrior Timur Leng (Tamerlane) and you get a real feel for history here as you stumble across ancient ruins amongst the bustle of city life, as opposed to the overly done up and glitzy Samarkand.

One shocking thing here was a vicious street brawl between a few blokes that came out of nowhere. This is a Tajik speaking area - clearly very passionate people.
