Hylton Castle Gatehouse Tower

I've been using the English Heritage site lately to find out more about what's in the area. Today I took a trip across to Sunderland to capture Hylton Castle Gatehouse Tower. The gloomy weather today was never going to do this historical landmark justice but I was thankful there was a brief burst of sunlight while I was there. There's a little too much foliage obscuring the doorway for my liking. I would've much preferred to have taken the shot from the opposite angle but that would have meant shooting into the sun. The tower would have lost all detail and looked like a silhouette and I don't know how to avoid this.

If you'd like to know more about the history of Hylton Castle then use this link.

Since arriving back home the sky has turned an even darker shade of grey and it is now beginning to rain. Oh the joys of an English Summer!
