1000th Dive!!

Plan A was to dive a wreck today but we were told the current was too strong on the wreck.

Now strong currents are not my favourite things when it comes to diving. And I am a wee bit worried that the currents here might be a bit of a challenge! But luckily, my dive buddy Bernard is of the same ilk as me - a soft & fluffy technical diver :-) We are both happy to take it as it comes and if the conditions are too much for either of us we will abort the dive. We are so very happy to have each other :-)

Plan B was to dive at the island you can see here. There are actually 2 islands here & we are diving in the channel between the two of them.

Now the diving works like this.....the bow anchor line is also the main shotline we are to follow down to the wreck. But due to the currents in the area, we can't jump in the water, swim to the shotline and descend onto the wreck. Instead, we jump in at the stern of the boat, descend down a short shotline of about 8-10m and then follow a transfer line along which joins the stern shotline with the main shotline and then descend down to the wreck. If the current is strong, we will have to pull ourselves along the transfer line to the main shotline.

So this was all set up for us on this dive, even though we were diving a wee reef rather than a wreck.

On our first attempt, the current was running like a train and it was much too strong for me to pull myself along the transfer line so I gave up after about 15 mins of trying.

That was my 999th dive!

A wee while later, the current slackened off and we had another go......with great success!

That was my 1000th dive :-))))))))))))))))))))))

Then we headed to our dive site for the next 2-3 days - the HMS Repulse.....
