Friday, December 19, 2014 -- Christmas Lights
We've seen this quaint little place numerous times. This evening Mr. Fun asked if he should stop so I could take photos. So, while I was taking photos, the owner came out to put the flag away for the night, and I asked, "Did your house used to be a church?"
That question turned into a 20-minute conversation with a very nice man, and a prominent person in our little community of Cayucos, CA (he's on the Board of our "Sanitary/Sewer Company and several others Boards).
His house looks very much like Grammie Teele's old, old church in Carlsbad. His house was built in the 1920s and was originally a realty office. He and his wife have owned it and lived in it since 1988. He explained that when it was originally built there was no bathroom; he speculated that it must have had an outhouse.
There's a garage on the other side that is basically a square box with a flat roof and they are getting ready to convert the roofline on the garage to match the gable of the house and add a bedroom.
On the side of the house where we were, they own an extra lot; it's fairly narrow, and it is a terraced flower garden. I need to remember to go back to see the flowers in spring. So that's part of what we did tonight.
