The shortest day

I am actually quite excited that today is the winter solstice, as it means that from now on the days start getting longer. Strictly speaking that is not quite true as a solar day is rarely exactly 24 hours, and therefore the sun lags behind the clock for part of the year, and speeds ahead of it for the rest.

I had a refreshing run with Gavin and Murdoch this morning, the fresh air certainly blew the cobwebs away and set me up for the rest of the day. I don't spend much time outdoors at this time of year so an outdoor run is very enjoyable.

While lunch was cooking in the oven I went out to get some photos at Black Pond in Esher, and here is the result.

Christmas in three days' time...that means I have to do my final grocery shop for the Christmas lunch and face those horrible crowds, probably will go tomorrow as it will only get worse as the week progresses.
