Bangkok from our hotel rooftop

After a sunny morning on the roof terrace in Kathmandu we take a taxi to the airport for our flight to Bangkok.  We ended up taking a Thai Airlines flight as it was the cheapest and the only direct one so it shouldn't be a long journey.

Kathmandu airport is slightly chaotic and things seems to work a little bit back to front compared to most but we check in and go through to the gates.  Our flight is delayed for about an hour as its late coming in but it's an easy, comfortable and uneventful flight.  The food on Thai Airlines is fab!  Its a clear day so there are amazing views of the Himalayas on take off.

On arrival, we make our way to our hotel in an area called Sukhumvit.  Its in the heart of the commercial district and seems a pretty good choice on first impressions.  We purposely decided to avoid Backpackers-ville and Khao San Road.

Our hotel is basic but nice and has a roof terrace.  This picture is taken from there.  Its already quite late so we decide to stay local tonight and go to explore.  We have dinner at a popular street food place and then are drawn to the bright lights of a road called Soi Cowboy.  It looks arcade like to begin with but soon we spot the scantily clad girls and ladyboys and realise what we've hit upon.

We are left largely alone being a couple so grab a couple of beers and watch the shenanigans.  It makes for an interesting couple of hours before we retire to bed.

Welcome to Bangkok ... it couldn't be more different to Kathmandu!
