Sak fixing Andy's violin pick-up
We wake late and groggy. Our hotel room doesn't have any windows so its difficult to know what time of day it is when you wake. We change rooms to one that does so hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Today, we are going to find our way around the City by trying to get Andy's violin pick-up fixed or replaced. He has a lead - a place called Strings, the address of which is the Emporio Shopping Centre. So, off we go. As we arrive, it looks like an unlikely place ... the ground floor is full of Prada, Chanel, Gucci etc. We ask various people and are told fourth floor, third floor etc. It's less exclusive the higher we go but still looks unlikely. We have some food and then try the electronics/music department. A really helpful guy goes and looks on the internet and says its the Emorio Plaza down the road. Off we trot. They can't help but direct us to a guy called Sak in the Pratunam Shopping Centre across town.
Reading his writing wrong at first, we go to the Platinum Shopping Centre which is just fashion. We wander a little then find an information kiosk - they direct us across the road to Pratunam. It looks more likely as its a local indoor market place - damp, roaches on the floor and dark. Again, no luck after wandering so, again we ask, pointing to the map the guy from Strings has written on. We eventually ask two guys who have no idea but another man from a stall across the way, sees the violin, hears the name Sak and directs us to the Palladium Shopping Centre across the road, third floor.
Fifth shopping centre lucky, after a search amongst mostly deserted or closed stalls on the third floor, the sound of electric guitar reels Andy in and we find him. We leave it with him for an hour or so and come back and he's replaced the pick-up successfully ... mission accomplished.
We head back to our hotel to drop the violin off then we head to China Town for dinner later on. Again, it takes a while to find after coming off the tube but we find it, have food and a wander and head back to the hotel.
