Abandonment
Wrens built this nest last spring under a shade canopy in our yard. We took it down last week and sadly there were these four eggs still in it. They were long ago abandoned by the wrens who probably went off to find a more safe spot to raise a family since our cat, Leo regularly naps just below. Carolina Wren males often build several nests while wooing a female. It's unusual though that they would abandon one after laying eggs in it.
