Price Watch

After a trip through Hampshire and Dorset I have been on a petrol price watch.
The price per litre had steadily fallen the week before Christmas and I was relieved to be able to fill up on Christmas Eve at 113.9 pence a gallon which was much lower than it had been when I first began contemplating my trip.
But my self satisfaction began to turn sour not too many miles from my fill-up when filling station signs were one penny a litre cheaper.!
By the end of my journey I had passed stations where the price of unleaded was down to 110.9 pence a litre.
By then my festive Christmas spirit was at a minor flashpoint as I mentally worked out 3 pence less per litre by the number of litres it had taken to fill the tank.
It was my wife who restored my sanity by bringing reason back reminding me that by filling up at my local supermarket I would benefit from the loyalty points.
Ah yes! Another voucher for a fiver from accumulated points spells a bottle of something we can enjoy on a winter evening in January.
Self satisfaction restored!
