What do you call the day after Boxing Day? It was certainly a name-worthy day of our festive period, but didnt have a name! Anyway, it was an excellent day. Leisurely start before all of us heading out to the Scarborough Sealife Centre. As you walk in, you're pushed towards a green screen and encouraged to "Wave at the turtles" and "scream at the pirhanas". Katie did both with gusto. She really enjoyed this visit. I half expected her to go round quite quickly and be done with it but she took her time on it all. We took a family friend with us and all of us had fun. Katie and I discovered we had arrived at the right time for the touchpool, so her, Grandad and I prodded anemones (anemoni?) and starfish and such. We played chase through the glass with the rays, who very definitely perform. We spent a long time at the seals, who are extreme posers. Especially the one in the image. Two of the small seals had a tiff about who got to be in the front of one of the photos I was taking. We had a late lunch and Katie had a long play in the soft play. She's only got another 5cm before she's too tall for that area! She made a new friend and they busied themselves saving their good ship from the bad ship that was attacking.
We had planned to head for a walk on the seafront but were greeted by much colder temperatures and sleet. We opted instead to go home for a Christmas movie, treats and central heating. Katie fell asleep on my knee and snored for the whole film. We had to show her the last 15minutes again.
The evening brought an incredibly special night. Katie and I got dressed up and off to the gala night for a really wonderful ballet teacher who taught me in my sixth form years. She has been teaching now for 50 years. She was the ballet teacher for Katie's godmother and a lot of my friends. Tonight there was a party and an incredible set of dances from nearly 100 former students. Including my bestie/Katie's godmother, her mum, her aunty and our friends. It was truly spectacular and very special to attend. Katie and Edie had an amazing time together, they ruled the disco - which was accompanied by live music from a seriously talented friend of mine. An amazing evening.
