Home!

Today was about getting home in one piece.  When we got in the car, I noticed that the petrol gauge was much lower than it should have been - about 1/2 a tank lower.  After I filled the tank for the 280 mile journey home, I checked under the car and sure enough, something suspicious was leaking...

I decided that I would rather have my friendly, reliable, local mechanics look at it at home so drove on and called the mechanic from the first (and only) stop.  He suggested to keep the tank less than half full.  As it turns out, despite the leak we got home on the one tank with a little to spare.  I don't think I've ever blipped the old clunker I call my car, but suffice it to say both she and I are plucky!  Every time we go south I'm reminded that my niece and nephew have newer, nicer cars than I do but with a difference.  They use theirs to go to work.  We use ours to take us on adventures to Ireland, Islay, the Western Isles, Orkney and who knows where in the coming year.  Give me an old clunker our Betty every time.

This shot was taken from just this side of the border as the sun was setting. I was so happy to be back in Scotland and the sunset was beautiful.  Driving most of the time in daylight was also rather pleasant - I might do more of that in the future.

After we got home Dr T went into town to see an old friend back for the holidays and I had a long chatty conversation with an old friend in my hometown.  It's good to catch up - I will try to do so here, too.  Thank you for your patience with my lack of commenting.
