Kidney Pyramid

Please see yesterday's entry to find out why my wife and I, together with two very good friends from Manchester (in reality Marple) are in Calais for a couple of days with the intention of eating nice food.

Today, we are dining at L'Histoire Ancienne ("chez Patrick") conveniently close to our hotel.  The Calais Guide says of the restaurant

This 30’s art-deco Paris Bistro themed restaurant is located right in the heart of Calais,

The restaurant, run by fourth generation restaurateurs Patrick (the chef, who learned his trade in Paris) and Claire Comte who manages the restaurant, is a joy to eat in. The décor is stylish and the food wholesome and all in a convivial atmosphere. The menu offers traditional French fare offering a mix of steaks and fish dishes that are arranged beautifully, and some dishes are char-grilled on an open oven and served immediately.

There’s also a good wine list and advice on-hand for the perfect food pairing.

Here is the restaurant's own web page, accompanied by what they believe to be appropriate music.

We certainly ate exceptionally well here.  The pyramid in the photograph contains my wifes "Rognons de veau, flambés au houles, sauce moutarde".

Perhaps this collection of photographs from the evening will give some impression of the food and the ambiance.
