Wednesday: Helga

New Year's Eve was spent in the company of our Croatian friends. We began the evening by heading to Danko and Dunja's, where they had cooked up a very fine suckling pig which set us up for the evening.  At one point, Danko brought out his latest acquisition - Helga, the mannequin - who kept us company while we ate dinner.

From there, we headed down to a bar, Sedmice, where we saw in the new year.  We were slightly apprehensive as we had thought we would be standing there cheek by jowl, but it was surprisingly OK and we found a table with ease.

After midnight, we finished the evening by heading to a party that a friend of Danko's was having.  This was such an interesting experience in cultural differences for me.  The person whose flat the party was in wasn't there and had given keys to a friend who was also in the same bar where we celebrated new year.  So a group of us trotted down the road, let ourselves in with the keys, and proceeded to have a party.  The host eventually pitched up at 0200........apparently, this was all OK and quite normal.  K. and I, in our very British ways, protested that we couldn't possibly just enter her flat and have a party but no-one else thought this was an issue......

Anyway, it's 0330 and we are home now so I think we put in a respectable showing.

Happy New Year!!
