Praying mantis

Went for a walk along the Canal du Midi from Trebes towards Carcassonne. There were a few boats pootling up and down the canal. There were big gaps in the Plane trees and lots of recently removed stumps where the trees have been affected by a deadly fungus.

It was quite blowy at times and the sound of acorns plopping into the canal from the overhanging oaks was quite loud. There were some great fungi along the banks but otherwise it was a fairly boring walk but easy going. On the way back, I spotted this large praying mantis in an umbellifer. I still don't know how it caught my eye but it was the highlight of the walk.
