Ladybird

After having little sleep the last two nights (first it was fireworks for hours to ring in the New Year in Iceland, and then it was spending the night on a plane making our way from London to Cape Town), we finally had a good night's sleep last night in our house in Swellendam. It was very nice to walk through the garden and see how things had grown (and died) in the 7 months since our last visit. I was especially glad to see ladybirds on the grenadilla plant. The friend who had been looking after the garden, has been using poison to keep the weeds in check, and I was convinced all the ladybirds were probably dead. So seeing the little ones made me very happy. Now if I can just find a way of getting rid of the weeds without using poison, I will be very happy. M says I should learn to live with the weeds, that they have a right to live too, but I disagree!
