Waiting for the Magi
While the world outside finishes throwing out its Christmas trees and discarding its decorations, the church was once more candlelit and beautiful tonight for the celebration of Epiphany. The huge tree was lit up for the last time; every candle flickered; the incense smoke crept throughout the building; the music was wonderful. It wasn't the packed congregation of Christmas Eve, but when I saw the numbers coming forward from the darkness to receive the sacrament, I realised that there were as many people there as used to constitute a good Sunday congregation.
And I had never heard that wonderful prophecy about the camels. Or maybe I simply wasn't listening. Happy Epiphany!
