Diary of an Edinburgher

Double trouble

There were a couple of workmen in hi-viz vests at the school gate this morning, so I wandered over and asked if they knew 'Jamie'. There must be many dozens of men working there, but one of the chaps seemed to know who I meant, and that was before I brought out the chocolate.

I have every reason to believe that Jamie will receive his bar of Fruit'n'Nut, along with an explanatory 'Thanks from the old biddie with the Christmas Tree'... Bonus: I didn't have to eat the chocolate, thereby saving many hundreds of calories. But of course, being weak willed, I had already bought two bars...

It was very windy this morning - really strong gusts, so litter (even more than usual) was everywhere. It was like Disneyland for Archie, bouncing along from toy to toy, dropping the one he was frolicking with in favour of a better one. Oh look - A cereal box! Now a milk carton!! Yipee! A glove!! It's amazing the number of items of clothing lying around...

Very exciting news re holidays. In a weak moment, and after several weeks of browsing, we took the plunge and booked a rather nice holiday at Easter. JR is really warming to this idea of more luxury, as befits our advancing age and love of creature comforts.

I think it's because she has never quite got over the trauma of three months in an old rickety un-roadworthy combi van that I persuaded her was a good idea (in the 90s). In the winter... I wish I had been blipping then - it was quite an adventure. I often suggest doing it again, perhaps with, say, proper heating and a roadworthy vehicle. The reply is unprintable.

While I'm still getting over the shock of the cost of this luxury holiday, I can look forward to the all-inclusive treats - personal butler, mini bar refilled daily, cocktails, all excursions...

Just need to get the Lad organised for his hols...

Talking of the lad... He's still looking a bit sad, although he had the cone off all evening and didn't touch his paw. If he does start licking it I say 'CONE!' And he looks at me, startled, and often rushes out of the room.

His beard has quite suddenly gone really rusty. Well, for some time now there's been a wee bit of redness, and I must own up here and now - I do occasionally clean it up on Photoshop. It's not that easy to get rid of in real life.

He still gazes in the mirror for minutes at a time. And he has been observed licking his reflection. Wonder what if he's thinking.
