The scan man..

Bright but cold today. Started off stirring slurry ready to pump to the tower later in the week. Things got a bit frantic for a while this afternoon. The scanning man came to do the old ewes at brothers next door. A buyer came to look cattle ,and managed to sell him 7 .He had a lorry on its way past from Stirling and could be here in an hour to collect them. A quick trip next door to bring the 2 from there over to join the 5 here, then read the ear tags, find the passports, sign and date them and load the lorry. In the mean time, the vet arrived to see another cow with a prolapse, and the electrician arrived to sort the feed mill control box.
Everything seems to happen at once round here. Oh, and found time at lunch time to sort the staircase light that wasn't suiting Mrs Farmerboab. All I got when she came home was " Have you done the other 2 yet ? "
The blip is of the sheep being scanned. They run up the ramp into the crate 1 at a time. The scanner man (Geordie) sits in the box at the far side watching the screen and puts his arm with the probe out a hole under the ewes belly and shouts out if its carrying a single, twins or empty. Then they get a different spray colour for each category  then escape out the front of the trailer. That could help sort out the NHS waiting lists if they did the same in hospitals !
