Heptonstall
A gem of a place.
Described as " Haworth without the Brontes, railway, and crowds."
This shot ( thought the B&W suited it) shows the main street, that has changed surprisingly little in the last 200 years.
No cinemas,no clubs, and little in the way of shops. As yet they haven't closed the Post Office!
Oh and two pubs. Which was the reason for our visit today
.
We had seen a report in the Yorkshire Post that had given it 5 stars for everything, including food, beers, atmosphere and friendliness.
So decided to treat ourselves to lunch.
A very steep drive up in the car. ( Decided not to walk this time!)
It was all we expected.
The steak and ale pie with chips, and seaonal veg. was delicious.
Had my eye on the lemon meringue pie, but was just too full!
May be next time!
They have several guest ales on tap, and you can try 3 x 1/3 for the price of a pint, before deciding which you like best.
Today the choice was:
Wainwright ( Thwaites) 4.1% Golden colour.
Brewers Buzzard ( Box Clever) 4.5% Amber.
Chinook ( Gooseye) 4.2% Blonde.
Ice Kissed Heart ( Hales) 4.3% Pale.
Rockin Robin ( Bluestone) 4.8% Dark.
I understand the pub has recently changed hands.
It now has new loos!........It was like walking through a time warp! They were amazing! Beautifully modern!
The weather turned out sunny, and so we didn't get soaked walking from the car park at the edge of the village, and the views were wonderful!
Looking forward to going back again and exploring more!
Forgot to say the name of the pub was The White Lion!
Thank you so much for all the hearts and stars for yesterday's sun rise.
Reached the "Popular" page. Think that is a first for me!
