…but not a whale. Alasdair Crotach eighth chief of Clan MacLeod, in the 15th century: his tomb, in a 'dim religious light', in the Church of St Clement, Rodel, Harris. He succeeded his father as chief when the latter died at the Battle Bloody Bay. Alasdair was called crotach, 'humpbacked' because of the result of wounds received in battle... And a merry lot they were indeed…
