Back On The Boat!

Ooops!! Once again I completely for got to blip yesterday!! I blame my recent misdemeanors on jet lag and I promise not to do it again!

I arrived in Cape Town late last night and after only about 4 hours sleep, I was picked up at my accommodation this morning at 4.40am! There was another volunteer, Amy, staying at the same place and we met in the reception area. The minibus picked up a few clients and then 2 more fellow volunteers, Gemma & Robyn.

I should explain to those of you who haven't known me for long that I am spending 3 weeks on a volunteer project working on a great white shark cage diving boat! This is my fourth trip out here (Mar 2009 - pre-blip; Oct 2009; Jan 2010) and I just LOVE IT!! The compant are called White Shark Projects and are one of 2 cage diving businesses who take on volunteers to work on the boats.

We arrived in Kleinbaai at just after 7am and for this morning only were treated as clients with a trip out on the boat! There were 3 other vols here already - Arthur, Ashlie & Devan - and here are Arthur, Robyn, Amy & Gemma ready to get into the cage!

We saw 9 different sharks this morning and it feels soooooooooooo good to be back seeing these amazing creatures!

We spent this afternoon unpacking, shopping and helping out at Swap Shop! This is an initiative WSP set up in the local township. The children bring along bags of recyclable stuff (plastic & glass bottles & cans) and depending on how much they have collected, they get a number of points. These points are then swapped for books, pens, pencils, toys & clothes. The schools don't provide books & pens so it's great for the kids! The recyclable goods are taken to a local recycling centre and the Swap Shop gets some cash for that which pays for more stuff for the kids and the vols usually give a donation or buy stock for the Swap Shop too.

Me, Gemma, Robyn & Amy have decided to cook together and Robyn made us a delicious cous cous meal with veggies & haloumi tonight! As we have an early start tomorrow morning, it will be early to bed for all of us.
