Monday, 1-12-15 Desiree & Justin's Wedding
This afternoon at 4:15, Desiree & Justin were married in La Jolla, near San Diego, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. These two have known each other for just about 3 years and have been talking about getting married since he returned from deployment last April.
Because they were short the funds to do a fancy wedding, and minus the help of any parents, the two of them opted for an expense-free wedding given to active service people. They certainly couldn't have had a more beautiful location, on a knoll overlooking the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, California. Music was provided by a violinist and a professional photographer also provided his services without expense. The ceremony was very meaningful.
They two of us gifted them with an overnight at a hotel of their choice. They selected Tower23 in Pacific Beach and we were thrilled when the hotel upgraded them to the honeymoon suite . . . which had a living room and a lovely bedroom, two complete bathrooms and two balconies that face the waves on the Pacific Ocean just a block north of Crystal Pier. With the room we included their dinner and their breakfast on Tuesday. Before the ceremony, the two of us had the fun of getting to see their hotel room. Des used the room to get dressed for the wedding and to prepare her hair. When I arrived, she was concerned that her dress was see-through and that she did not have a slip to wear under the dress. So I did have a slip under my dress (I love lingerie) and my dress was not thin or see-through, so my granddaughter wore my slip under her wedding dress. I think that fills the role of something borrowed! That little scenario puts a huge smile on my face.
I took a zillion photos, and selecting just one is quite a challenge, but I really like this one where Desiree is concentrating on putting on Justin's ring and repeating the vows that the chaplain is telling her to speak. The breeze catching the skirt of Des's dress is lovely.
Of our three grandchildren, Desiree has had the most tumultuous childhood as her parents split up when she was so little that she doesn't remember them together. She has had many challenges in her young life. She will have her 26th birthday on January 30 and Justin had his 26th birthday on December 30th. Desiree has a little boy who is 7 years-old, Tristan, our great-grandson, who was not at the wedding because he lives with his dad in Yucaipa, California, which is too far of a distance for a Monday afternoon journey and Justin has a daughter who will be 7 years-old on her next birthday and she lives in Kansas, which is where Justin grew-up. Desiree is currently in cosmetology school and Justin is a very talented aircraft mechanic, and specializes in helicopters. His desire when he joined the Navy was to be a helicopter pilot, but he has turned out to be an extremely quality mechanic. Often Justin is asked for when there are mechanical problems because "he is the best."
When the two of us made our exit from La Jolla, we drove north on the coast and stopped for dinner in a quaint and lovely Italian restaurant in Carlsbad, which is the city where I did lots of growing-up because my Grammie Teele lived there when I was a youngster.
This was quite a day.
Good night,
Rosie (& Mr. Fun), aka Carol
