Off To The Races
This sculpture was installed last summer on the Wetherby 'turnpike' roundabout. The design was from a team from Leeds City Council that had won a gold medal at the 2010 Chelsea Flower Show. The winding 'drystone' wall reflects the limestone ridge on which Wetherby is built and the horse is a link to the town's racing heritage. It is sponsored by a local stone company.
On my way to Wetherby this morning I couldn't help but notice how the early sun was illuminating the horse and making it stand out against the dark clouds behind. I managed to get parked up and get some shots in just as the rain started - a minute late the light was gone and the sleet was falling.
Worth a look large (if you can).
At camera club a few weeks ago one of the elderly members was telling how he had gone onto the roundabout and spent quite a while taking shots, and then, trying to get off, found that 'rush hour' had started and he was unable to get across the two lanes of traffic back to the path. Someone in a car had started circling the roundabout and one of the passengers was on the phone and kept looking at the him (he was sitting down at this point). A few minutes later a police van turned up with blue lights flashing and parked up - officers got out and said someone had called to say they thought he was ill and needed assistance! They put him in the van and took him home as they were concerned for his safety!
I stayed on the path today!
Ooh I see the thumbnail crop has reappeared this morning - yay!
