The Clocktower
A beautiful, bright, sunny day but very cold.
We went in to Waterstones Bookshop to buy fellow blipper Peter May's latest book 'Runaway', which has just been released. He is speaking at an event in Dundee Central Library on Wednesday of next week, which I am looking forward to very much.
Afterwards, we went round to City Quay, since the low, bright sun was highlighting the Dundee skyline. This Building, known as the Clocktower, was refurbished as flats in 2009.
It was built back in 1877 with the intention of making its clock-face visible to any vessel in the harbour or the mouth of the River Tay; and it provides some of the most outstanding views across both the city and the river.
It has an incredible history, having served as everything from a cathedral of commerce to a huge warehouse; but one element has remained consistent: it has been built to last, dating back to the stone and iron age of the Victorian era. It features arcing barrel vaulted ceilings with stout, cast iron pillars that serve to emphasise the incredible craftsmanship that went into this building.
The flats cost around £250,000 in 2009 and are worth considerably more today. I guess it is a case of Location, Location, Location!
