Love and the cross

I was given this bookmark a while ago as a gift and I like to have it propped up in my room somewhere to remind me of one of my favourite verses about God’s love. The shape is also a reminder of that love.

Day 17: The love that God has for us is freely given to us but it was costly to him. He saw his son nailed to a cross and was cut off from him. This is what we deserve but for some reason God loved us too much to leave us in our sinful state and sent Jesus to pay the debt of death. That is why we should strive to love others no matter what the cost. We love because he first loved us. At Christmas he came to serve, not to be served. It was Christ’s love for us that kept him on that cross.
