'7000 Houses'
An art installation around the streets of Melbourne at the moment.
Home, Arts Centre Melbourne’s new interactive arts project sees 7000 little houses – decorated by communities from over Melbourne and Victoria – filling Melbourne’s streets, parks and laneways.
Devised by Melbourne artist and designer Darryl Cordell and Arts Centre Melbourne, Home explores and celebrates the idea of “home” and what it means to individuals, families and communities. More than 80 groups - including community arts organisations, councils, schools, The Royal Children’s Hospital, immigration detention centres, disability service providers and transitional housing groups - have decorated the tiny homes.
The project is the second in series of projects supported through Arts Centre Melbourne’s Betty Amsden Participation Project, a four year community arts initiative with a focus on opening up access to, and engagement with, the arts.
